Christian Barry

Christian Barry is a director, actor, writer, and designer from Halifax, and a founding member and artistic co-director of 2b theatre company.

Christian holds a B.A. (Honours) in Theatre from Dalhousie University, and is a graduate of the highly selective directing program at the National Theatre School of Canada.

He recently directed part two of The Mill, which won the 2010 Dora Mavor Moore award for Outstanding Production (independent). He was also nominated for the Outstanding Director Dora. Christian won awards for both Best Direction and Best Lighting Design at the 2008 Theatre NS Merritt Awards, and has been nominated as the Best Director at the Merritts five of the last seven years. Christian received the 2008 Halifax Mayor’s award for an Emerging Artist, and the 2006-7 Urjo Kareda residency grant at the Tarragon Theatre in Toronto.

Christian has directed shows that have played across Canada and internationally. For 2b, he most recently directed the world premiere of Homage by Anthony Black, which went on to play at the Magnetic North and Luminato Festivals. Other 2b: Revisited (World Stage Festival, Free Fall, Theaterformen Hanover, PuSh Festival, Intrepid Theatre), the Canadian tour of The Russian Play, and East of Berlin by Hannah Moscovitch. He co-directed 2b’s world premiere of Manners of Dying with Anthony Black in 2004, and in 2003 he directed the Eastern Canadian tour of 2b’s production of Cherry Docs. Christian also directed the workshop of 2b’s Homage at the Stratford Festival.
