Shauntay Grant announced as 2b playwright-in-residence

2b welcomes award-winning writer and educator Shauntay Grant as the company’s 2016-2018 playwright in residence.

Over the next few years, Ms. Grant will work with 2b theatre company to develop her new play, The Bridge. Initial open-call workshops for the project will be held in early October.

Shauntay Grant currently teaches creative writing at Dalhousie University as a Lecturer in the Department of English/Creative Writing Program. She served as Halifax’s Poet Laureate from 2009 to 2011, and earlier this year she was Writer-In-Residence for the Writers Trust of Canada’s celebrated Berton House Writers Retreat in Dawson City, Yukon.

Her work has earned her invitations to present at local and international events, and her creative writing has appeared in several publications, most recently a 2016 edition of Contemporary Verse 2: The Canadian Journal of Poetry and Critical Writing. Grant’s awards and honours include a Best Atlantic-Published Book prize from the Atlantic Book Awards, a Poet of Honour prize from Spoken Word Canada, a Jury Award for Outstanding Drama from the Atlantic Fringe Festival, and a Joseph S. Stauffer Prize in Writing and Publishing from the Canada Council for the Arts. Her curated exhibition Stitched Stories: The Family Quilts is currently on display at the Dalhousie Art Gallery until November 27.

This residency is made possible thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts. For more about Ms. Grant’s work, visit
