Year in review: 2025

By December 30, 2025 Uncategorized

We feel incredibly fortunate to have celebrated so much success this year, and we want to thank you for celebrating right along with us.

Let’s take a look back at some of our 2025 highlights:

In February, 2b collaborated with the Black Cultural Centre on this year’s African Heritage Month Gala, hosted by Associate Artistic Director Jacob Sampson. This year’s event brought in over 2000 attendees from across the province for a vibrant showcase and celebration of Black arts, culture, and legacy.

In March, Gloria Mok (RBC Emerging Artists-in-Residence 2022-23) performed Long Distance Relationships for Mythical Times in Whitehorse with Nakai Theatre. This show originally premiered in 2021 at the Halifax Central Library.

Red Like Fruit played at the prestigious Luminato Festival in Toronto as part of the Soulpepper Theatre season from May 28th to June 15th.

We were overjoyed to add August Van Meekeren and Landon Morris to team 2b as our 2025 summer staff – these two played pivotal roles in our activities and operations this summer.

In June, we celebrated 2b’s 25th birthday with a massive concert honoring 2b’s past, present, and future. Hosted by Jeff Douglas, this unique show featured a triple bill, with mini-sets from past and present 2b collaborators Aquakultre, Ben Caplan, and Hawksley Workman.

In July, 2b presented a sold-out work-in-progress showing of YOUR SHOW HERE by Daniel MacIvor, a new play by Rework Productions, supported by the Siminovitch Prize.

2b headed to Scotland in July and August, where Red Like Fruit took the Edinburgh Festival Fringe by storm. Again. Red Like Fruit received rave reviews from the UK and Scottish press, and received a Scotsman Fringe First Award!

Later on in August, Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story toured to Shanghai to take part in the ACT Shanghai Contemporary Theatre Festival. This marked 2b’s first time touring to China.

We’ve had to privilege to workshop our newest creation, Metamorphoses, several times throughout the year. Featuring the extraordinary Walter Borden, this evolving work connects ancient myth with the beauty and fragility of modern life.

Also this year, Olivia Rankin stepped into a new leadership role as 2b’s general manager, and Emma James became a permanent fixture on the team as 2b’s administrative and communications coordinator.

To cap off an already incredible year, we were honoured that Red Like Fruit, written by Hannah Moscovitch and starring Michelle Monteith & David Patrick Flemming, was listed #2 in The Top 10 Toronto theatre productions of 2025 by GoAheadSumi.com!
