adapted and performed by Anthony Black
from the short story by Yann Martel
Based on a short story by Life of Pi author Yann Martel, One Discordant Violin explores a transformative encounter with an unlikely composer, asking what happens when we reach for what is beyond our grasp. A duet for storyteller and violinist, this adaptation shows us that beauty can be found in unexpected places.
One Discordant Violin is based on the short story “The Time I Heard the Private Donald J. Rankin String Concerto with One Discordant Violin, by the American Composer John Morton” by Yann Martel, from The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios, published by Knopf Canada in 1993.
Available in French translation by Maryse Warda as Un Violon Discordant.
